Wealth vs. Poverty

Wealth vs. Poverty
Jesus talks about wealth a lot throughout the Bible. It has been said that you can determine one’s condition by examining his checkbook. The Bible has many of verses that deal specifically with money and wealth. Jesus himself said that “Where your treasure is, there will be your heart also.” (Matthew 6:21) A person’s attitude toward money as well as how we spend it can reveal where our true priorities lay. Reflect on Jesus’ illustration of the rich fool described in Luke 12:16-20.

Jesus also talks much about poverty throughout the Bible, such as this verse. “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.” (Luke 6:20) He was saying this directly to his disciples. He was saying that it doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor. You are followers of God, and that is as wealthy as you can be.

So throughout the BIble, wealth and poverty are huge conflicts. But if you believe and follow Jesus Christ, you will be just fine the way you are because you will have everlasting life with him in his kingdom.

  2. I agree with that last paragraph. It does not matter if you are wealthy or poor if you follow Jesus.

  3. I believe Christ was wanting the wealth to know that their money is not what defines them in God's eyes it is more the wealth that they have in the love, knowledge, relationships, and passion that a person has that makes them wealthy in his eyes. Are they Giving out of pure generosity, are they loving with their whole heart, and are they making the most out of their meetings whit other christians and those who are blind to God's loving truths

  7. I like the thought about no matter what social class you are in or how much money you have, faith in God is the only thing you need. The reason Jesus says Luke 6:20, is because those who are poor can be richer in faith because they do not have material things to put their faith in they only have God. We should try and be more like them. I totally agree with your thoughts and ideas about wealth vs. poverty.

  8. Dogfan, I totally agree that it doesn't matter whether we are poor or rich if we are followers of God, though sometimes I forget that and start to feel prideful about living in America and being so blessed by God. I neglect to give Him glory for giving me everything I have.
