Poverty in Africa and what Jesus says about it


There are many people in Africa countries who are very poor.  Many people do not 
realize what they have until it is gone.  Some people in Africa are lucky just to have a roof over their head and food on their plate. 

There is an estimated 1,022,234,000 people living in Africa. There are the rich, butthere are many who are in poverty. The water is gross colors in some villages. While other villages live in huts that barely stay up.  There are many diseases that spread because of the bad environments. People have to suffer while we get to go home to a nice house with our families. We can help these people.

Jesus had a lot to say about poverty. Jesus was born in a manger in a stable. His parents were not high class. 
“If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:17-18.Here Jesus is saying that you should take action and help others in need and not just forget about them.  Just as the Golden Rule states, “Do unto others, as you would have them do unto you.”  Jesus wants us to go help those in need, because if we were in their situation and needed help. We would want them to help us. 

The people in the poor African villages need help. We can pray for them, but if we were in their situation we would want help. We can help them.  In 1 John 3:17-18, Jesus tells us to help with actions. There is a 57% poverty rate in just South Africa alone and other countries in Africa are higher than that even. Any help they could get could change their life.

    I totally agree. I think we realize how many people are less fortunate than us. We also do not realize how luck we are today. I think we should definitely do more to help those affected in Africa, but help those in need in Memphis first.

    We should not only pray for the people of Africa, but we should also take action and do what we can to help out the needy.

    I like the part where you mentioned that Jesus said we should take action and help others in need and not forget about them. And then you repeated the Golden Rule. That is exactly right.

    The thought of people dying from unclean water has been in the front of my mind for a few years now. People also die everyday from not even having water at all. I have been in contact with a charity called Charity Water. They go to the impoverished areas around the world and drill wells for them to get plenty of clean water.

    I agree and I agree with Chandler. There is a lot we can do. I also agree with Jordan. That is so sad and we are so wasteful with the things that God has blessed us with sometimes.

    That is so true. Sometimes we only think about ourselves and we do not think about others. We sometimes forget what a blessed life we have. We need to help others and do whatever we can!

    I dont think people realize how good they have it in America. They need to open up their eyes and see what really happens in other countries like Africa. And also, people need to be more thankful for what they have.

    One night in church, we had people come talk to us about how poor the people in Africa because of a civil war that was going on. These missionaries went over to Africa to help out with the problem and taught the poor people about Jesus and they said that the people started to receive hope. The missionaries said that they started to try to make something of their life because they were living for Jesus.

    I agree. People really don't know what goes on in Africa. We should set Jesus's example and do our best to give back to them. It truly is a blessing to be 'well off' and we should use that to the best of our ability to help others.

    I agree that there is a very high rate of poverty in Africa, but there is also some in other places. If we are unable to help those in Africa then we could help the poverty of America. It is shocking of how many people in Africa are affected by poverty. I love your idea of every little thing can help. We may think that some things we do for others don't matter but to someone in poverty it is a big deal. We should stop thinking about ourselves and try and think of others.
